Creating Eva and Fostering Global Communication
A behind-the-scenes look at brand building, personality design, and creative strategy from the ground up.
01 — Origin
How We Started
Our first vision was a conversational chatbot designed to support people with autism — a compassionate tool to help navigate everyday social interactions. Translation a secondary feature we hadn't fully explored.
However, after meeting with a business consultant, things changed. He was direct: translation is more marketable, and it needed to become our north star. We pivoted and put all our efforts into exploring how we could fit into the translation world.
02 — Research
Discovering Our Audience & Where We Stood
Before user interviews, we had early assumptions about where we'd shine compared to neural machine translators like Google translate or DeepL. But sitting across from real users gave us valuable insight which guided our design decisions.
What emerged was clear: our true strength was contextual translation of complex languages — the cultural nuance and idiomatic depth that NMT tools consistently miss.
03 — Brand
Discovering Our Own Voice
With a sharpened product direction, I took on the challenge of building the Speakease brand from scratch — visual identity, tone of voice, and a creative strategy tied directly to our business goals.
Collaboration was key to success at this stage and it was imperative that I could back up my decisions with data and strong reasoning as the only designer on the team.
Process & Behind the Scenes
A closer look at the work, the iterations, and the moments that shaped the final product. After some experimentation with DALL E, it became clear LLM's weren't up to this task quite yet. They lack design chops and the ability to make something meaningful.

04 — Eva
Creating Eva's Personality & Prompt Engineering
Eva isn't just a product feature — she's a carefully constructed presence. Through market research, I developed her personality to feel warm, precise, and culturally attuned.
User interview feedback then directly shaped how we engineered her prompts — ensuring she doesn't just translate words, but interprets intent, preserves emotion, and communicates the way a trusted human interpreter would.
